HYBRIDITY showcases paintings and prints by contemporary artist Kim Wan, whose distinctive practice has been described as “the point where fine art meets graffiti”.
With deep connections to Hastings and Rye, Wan is as comfortable in the boxing ring with his club BMAX as he is with a paintbrush in hand. A regular presence on the seafront, he often shares photographs of the sea and sky online.
“I’ve seen the area change a lot,” he says.
HYBRIDITY presents a series of self-portraits in paint and pixels, alongside dynamic surfaces created over the past two years. Drawing on both traditional and contemporary approaches, Wan has developed a distinctive visual language that bridges the technical traditions of oil painting with more radical methods of image-making.
